With unprecedented access to high-speed, wireless internet and the proliferation of smart phones and tablets, people all over the world can now discover an infinite number of new things at the tap of a screen.

One of the many positive outcomes is new avenues to administer and receive health care.

Telemedicine, also called telehealth is the use of telecommunication and information technology to provide clinical health care from a distance.   It helps eliminate distance barriers and can improve access to medical services to those living in outlying rural communities and to those who have difficulty driving or walking.

Telehealth comes at at opportune time for the following reasons:

1. Many health conditions, especially chronic cases can be effectively managed outside the clinical setting.   Modes of intervention include diet and nutritional strategies, exercise rehabilitation, lifestyle modification and psycho-social monitoring; all of which can be taught remotely via the internet.  Live and pre-recorded instructional videos and webcasts; Skype and Facetime, and secure email are currently the main channels of telehealth communications.

2. Traditional medical care has a limit when it comes to chronic disease management. Drugs often create a new set of health problems and promote dependency.  Telehealth encourages and empowers health-challenged individuals to take responsibility for their own health and reduce their dependency on drugs and their doctor.  Studies confirm that such a dependency worsens the prognosis of health conditions, such as chronic low back pain.

3. The cost of healthcare is high as it has ever been. Many people don’t have access to a doctor.   Telehealth can fill this gap quite effectively, helping more people faster, and at less cost than an in-office doctor visit.

The Regenerate and Rehab Method (R2M) is a system consisting of online courses that teach individuals how to self-manage the most common types of musculoskeletal disorders.   It merges the fields of nutrition, exercise rehabilitation, prevention and other lifestyle modification techniques to enable the body to heal itself.

R2M represents the latest in telehealth physical rehabilitation and is continually being improved and updated to fulfill its mission of being a world leader in alleviating chronic pain.
