When the elbow pain is acute, ice the area for 15 minutes to calm the inflammatory response. Do 3x per day (2 hours apart) for one or two days.

An ice massager works well for this.  Although you can buy one like the one shown above, you can make one yourself.  Simply get a paper cup, fill it with water and put it in your freezer.  When frozen, tear off about 1/2″ of the cup to expose the frozen ice.   Rub it on your elbow, pressing down with mild force to help drive out the swelling.
