Patellar Tracking Problem

patella

The patella, or knee cap, is a small flat bone whose function is to protect the knee joint surfaces during movement while connecting the quadriceps tendon to the tibia so that you can extend your knee (straighten out your leg).

It is supposed to glide in the groove formed by the medial and lateral condyles of the distal femur head, but sometimes it can track outside of that groove during knee flexion and extension.  Usually, there is a clicking sound or sensation when the patella mis-tracks.
